The Process

The boats are reserved with a local charter company for cabin charter with an experienced skipper, so no previous sailing experience is necesary to join the trips. The bookings is available until the 31st of January 2019 and is limited to the maximum amount of 30 guests per week. Once a booking request is made we will get in touch with you to schedule a short telephone interview and confirm the booking as soon as poosible. The final amount to be paid is split in two seperate payments in order to make the participation more affordable. You will receive an invoice from Tubber BV with all further details. After the second payment has been settled we will send out a request for personal information, a travelling voucher and other information.

The Mission

We take the lessons that we learned from many sailing holidays and translated these in our concept to create a safe and comfortable environment with a common space for people to connect. Many companies that offer a cheaper price are cutting  costs at expense of the skipper, the number of guests on board and the scale. A private space to relax for the skipper with a fair reimbursement, and nobody sleeping in the salon has a significant impact on safety and comfort.

 After extensive research you will figure out the following:

  1. No other company will give-up 2x spots per boat in order to create a private space for the skipper and create more space for the crew on deck.

  2. Conduct a personal interview in an already niche market product.

  3. Provide extras such as cinemar-nights, yoga, stand-up paddle board tours,  concerts and BBQs.

  4. Pre-finances the significant amount to be paid as a deposit for you.

  5. A small scale with personality and very limited spots.

Frequently Asked Question - Before the trip

Can I join without sailing experience?

The boats are reserved with a local charter company for cabin charter with an experienced skipper, so no previous sailing experience is necesary to join the trips. You will receive a short sailing lesson and a security briefing up before departure.

Why on-board expenses?

Seperate on-board expenses are best practice in the charter market. Comparing a charter to a rental camper, we can arrange you a vehicle, find somebody who is able to drive it, take insurance and deposit off your shoulders and give you a sense of direction with some beautiful spots. However, you will still need to eat, pay the parking and fill-up the gas. We do not offer an all incluse or a holiday package. This way you will remain with a sense of self-direction and responsibilty.

How do I get to the boat?

The international airport of Split (SPU) is located a short convenient taxi ride from the Seget Donji Marina. The airport is well connected to many European city's. We serve as an agent for a cabin charter and do not include any travel arrangements or transport to/from the harbour. 

My flights is late, can I check in at night?

Yes, you will also be able to board the boat at night and check-in on the next morning early. However, there is a security briefing and some shoppings to be done before we can leave the harbour at 10am on Sunday morning. The more relaxed way to start the vacation is to arrive on Saturday afternoon, meet the crew and organize the shoppings.

What are the times / dates to choose my flight?

The check-in time for the boat is Saturday at 7pm and the boat leaves the harbour on the next morning at 10am. You should arrive some time on Saturday.  We will aim to return on Friday (6 days after departure). However, do not book any return fligths before Saturday morning 10am. Sailing is highly weather dependent and you would risk to miss your flight.

How does the booking process work?

How does the payment process work?

 

Once your booking is confirmed you will receive a request for payment via Tubber.com for the first 50% of the total price. The second request for payment will be due 6 weeks before the date of embarcation. This terms of payment are made to make the participation more affordable. The payment can also be settled in one transaction if requested. The local costs described as on board expenses are paid indiviudally during the holiday and are not a subject of the booking.

Until when will I be able to book?

The berths are given away on a first comes first sails system. Please consider that no more bookings will be possible after 31th of January 2019. We have reserved a number of boats for the trip which will be released at this stage. The total number of sailors will be distributed on the minimum number of boats if necessary.

Will my payment be secured until the trip starts?

 

The payment are secured against insolvency by SGR and Touristik Versicherungs Service GmbH as an Agent for HanseMerkur Reiseversicherungs AG. This way you can be sure that the payment are protected until the cabin cahrter begins.

 

It is adviced to make sure that you travel with a valid European health insurance that will cover the costs for any possible rescue actions and costs for local treatment at the destination. This is comparable to making a ski-holiday and included in most of the mandatory insurance.  Furthermore, a travel insurance that will cover the costs of the trip in case you are not able to join the trip because of sickness is recommended. The cancellation periodof the provider doesn't allow to cancel last minute.

What personal insurance will I need?

What is the cancellation policy?

The cancellation period is strict because any place that is blocked on a first comes firsl sails system would be lost after the 31st of January. Therefore, any cancellation by the traveler made after the 31st of January 2019 will result in the loss of the downpayment already made. In case of special circumstances there is a possibility to replace the berth with another person that fits the group. 

A travel insurance is nice to have in order to cover the costs in the event of illness, transport and similar. 

Chartering a boat is comparable to renting a car just with a much higher price tag. The value of the boats is a multiple times the value of a rental car. If you would charter an entire boat alone you would need to deposit between two and five thousand Euro. We don't require you to pay your full-part of this as a lot of the big companies do. Instead, we pre-finance the deposit and we arranged a deposit insurance for your skipper which covers the majority of risk. However, You will need to deposit the non-waivable part of the deposit (75€) and take responsibility together as a crew to return the boat in the same conditions as on arrival. In the worst case, even if the boat sinks there would be no further costs. In the best case, the boat is returned in the same conditions and the deposit will be released on the spot. With this security you can enjoy the special holiday without worries. 

What do I make a deposit for?

Can I join alone?

 

Yes you can join alone and as part of a crew you won't be alone. The bedrooms are always double and you will share a bed with another sailor. Please let us know your preferences regarding sharing with the same or another gender. 

What should I bring?

 

We will make a packing list available for download here. You won't be able to bring a hard-suitcase on on board because of the limited space. For this reason sailors invented sea bags.  

Frequently Asked Question - On the trip

How much sailing can I expect?

The trip will be a good mix of sailing and leisure activities. From experience we try to sail not more than 3 hours  on average a day. This trip we are planning on 2 long sailing days to cover the distance necessary to get to these secluded beaches and keep the remaining legs very short to maximize leisure time.

How can I get groceries and drinks?

The day of arrival is also the time to do the majority of shoppings for the trip. We will deliver 40 liter of bottled drinking water to your boat so you don't have to carry this load. The water is on us, for the rest there is a number of supermarkets located close to the marina baotic. In the past it has also been proven to be a good idea to buy liquor in the duty free shop at the airport.

What happens if there is a storm?

The weather in the region is quite stable in summer with an average temparture of 25 degrees and a low probability of winds stronger than 4 bft. We do not control the weather but we monitor the forecasts closely and will always decide for the safest option possible. In the morning the skippers meet and decide on the route for the day based on the most recent weather data. In case of high probability of strong winds (6bf +) the boat will stay in the safe harbour.

Who will be in charge of boats?

The skipper will be a responsible person with extensive sailing experience able to control the boat and maintaining a friendly vibe on deck.  The majority of skippers are from our personal circle of friends and have been sailing with us previously. Every skipper must have sailed a minimum of 2500 nautical miles and posses a valid skipper license for coastal waters as well as commercial third party insurance. In events of the loss of a pre-defined skipper (e.g. transportation error, illness or injury) a local expert skipper will be contracted for your charter. 

Where will I sleep?

You can imagine the inside of a boat just like a giant camper with 4 double bed rooms and a roof top. You will sleep all of the nights on the boat. The double bedrooms are comfy but cozy. The  The boat will either be moored in a harbour in which case you will be connected to land with all amenities such as full electricty, walking off the boat, water etc. or we spend the night on anchor in the nature.

What happens when I get sea sick?

It is very rare for people to get sea sick on this kind of sailing trips. In case it happens nevertheless, every boat has medication on board and the skippers are trained to deal with it. The sailing legs are reasonably short and sea-sickness disappears quickly when the sick person comes back to land.

Are we going to sail at night?

No we will arrive latest 1 hour before sunset at a safe harbour or bay to anchor. The evenings are designed for leisure and drinks. Sailing at night would only be necessary if an unpredicted change of weather makes an anhorage unsafe or other emergencies that rarely happen.
